Unesa. ac.id, SURABAYA—Faculty of Law (FH) Surabaya State University (UNESA) hosted Strengthening the Quality of Public Services and a Guest Lecture organized by the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia. This event took place at the FH Auditorium, Ketintang Campus, Surabaya on Tuesday, August 27 2024.
This activity aims to increase students' understanding of the important role of the Ombudsman in supervising public services. Deputy Dean 1 FH UNESA, Muh Ali Masnun, explained that this event is expected to provide practical insight to students regarding public oversight mechanisms.
"The main aim of this event is to increase students' understanding and awareness regarding the role of the Ombudsman in supervising public services, as well as the importance of good quality and transparent public services," he said.
Member of the Indonesian Ombudsman, Johanes Widijantoro, in his material session emphasized the importance of quality and transparent public services for the community as well as the various responsibilities carried out and The Ombudsman's authority is to carry out investigations, provide recommendations and resolve public service disputes.
Apart from that, he also provides concrete portraits of various forms of public services which are often a source of public complaints. Finally, he explained how the role of the Ombudsman was strengthened through legislation that allows for more effective supervision in providing services to the community.
The collaboration with the Indonesian Ombudsman in organizing this guest lecture began with the Ombudsman's request to participate as a guest lecturer in the series their working visit to East Java.
"The university welcomes this opportunity as part of efforts to improve the quality of education by presenting resource persons who have practical experience in the field of public service supervision," said Muh Ali Masnun.
This event not only provides richer lecture material but also strengthens relations between universities and state institutions. Through this activity, Law Faculty students are expected to be able to better understand the mechanisms for monitoring public services and be able to apply them in future legal studies and practice.
"They are also expected to have a higher awareness of the importance of quality public services, " he explained.
The law lecturer stated that the law faculty plans to hold further discussions with the Ombudsman to explore the possibility of deeper collaboration, such as joint research or internship programs.
This step is expected to be make a real contribution to improving the quality of public services in Indonesia. This activity ended with the signing of strengthening cooperation between members of the Indonesian Ombudsman and the Dean of FH UNESA Arinto Nugroho witnessed by UNESA leadership.[]
