Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA—Class of 2021 student, Electrical Engineering Education Undergraduate Study Program, Faculty of Engineering (FT) UNESA, Hasan Abdul Bar is the Indonesian delegate in the ASEAN Youth Volunteer Program (AYVP) Malaysia 2024 in Kuala Lumpur and Mersing Johor Malaysia, which will take place from 2-15 December 2024.
AYVP is an ASEAN level collaboration program specifically for young volunteers or young volunteers. The forum aims to build the leadership of the younger generation in various fields through social activities and community service, exchange learning experiences, develop capacity, and increase cross-cultural understanding.
This year, AYVP carries the theme 'Empowerment ASEAN Youth for Planetary Health.' The program organized by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) was supported by the ASEAN Secretariat and attended by 50 ASEAN youth representatives including Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar.
In its implementation, this program is divided into two sessions, namely online lecture class and offline at the Marine Ecosystem Research Center (EKOMAR) Johor Malaysia. In the online session, Hasan received ten materials related to environmental issues such as air pollution, climate change, and carbon print.
Present Disaster Mitigation Strategy
Together with other delegates, Hasan was given the opportunity to present solutions for each topic of discussion material. He explained the innovation of personal protective equipment or PPE in efforts to mitigate the tsunami disaster in Indonesia.
The student from Probolinggo was determined to explain PPE because he had sufficient knowledge and had won the 2023 PIMNAS competition. This time he initiated PPE in more detail by updating the distribution stage so that it was more organized. He also involved stakeholders in tsunami-prone areas to increase efficiency through PPE modifications in several supporting features.

Strengthen Networks and Environmental Awareness
Through a series of activities, Hasan gained a lot of valuable experience. “This program is very impressive, because it provides experience that not only broadens your knowledge regarding environmental issues, but also builds practical skills through various field activities. "Interaction with friends from various ASEAN countries is a moment to enrich your point of view and increase your international friendship network," he said.
Meanwhile, the experience of presenting innovative solutions in the lecture class session provided his opportunity to contribute to facing global environmental challenges.
As a volunteer, Hasan hopes that programs like this can continue to exist in the future. This activity, which is rich in environmental exploration and cultural introduction, emphasizes the importance of international collaboration to protect the marine environment while increasing cultural insight in other countries.
According to him, activities like this are important for students, namely being able to get to know and broaden their knowledge regarding international culture, building networks with friends throughout ASEAN. Apart from that, it can increase the younger generation's sense of concern as future leaders towards environmental conservation and other global issues.[*]
