Unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA--Surabaya State University (UNESA) together with the Indonesian National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) held a public lecture with the theme "Strengthening and Equipping Student Regiments (Menwa) in Overcoming the Dangers of Radicalism and Terrorism" in the Auditorium, 7th floor, UNESA Sports Psychology Integrated Building, on Tuesday (27/8/2024).
UNESA Director of Student and Alumni Affairs, Muhamad Sholeh, officially started this guest lecture by emphasizing the importance of this activity for students. "I am sure that Menwa as the front guard, both inside and outside the campus environment, can create unity and strong nationalism," he said.
As a resource person, present was Colonel (Sus) Harianto, Head of the BNPT Community Empowerment Sub-Directorate , together with Hesti Armiwulan, as Chair of the East Java Province Terrorism Prevention Coordination Forum (FKPT). In the material session, the Colonel from Lamongan entrusted BNPT's message to Menwa.
First, embrace the academic community to instill a sense of love for the country. Menwa is at the forefront of participating in defending the country on the scale of Higher Education Institutions. Menwa requires communication and coordination skills with all parties in higher education to be able to represent students who still uphold the values of patriotism.
Students who are members of Menwa are still encouraged to prioritize their time studying so as to train their intellect. and their identity, including convincing themselves that the Indonesian state is worth fighting for. This right is also regulated in Article 27 paragraph (3) of the 1945 Constitution which confirms that every citizen has the right and obligation to participate in efforts to defend the country.
Second, internalize the four national and state consensuses. Starting from Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, the motto Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, to the Republic of Indonesia, they are not just ordinary symbols, but unifying ideals that should be instilled by Indonesian society. This is because love for the respective countries of Indonesia is concluded in the four consensuses, especially to build understanding amidst all the diversity of society.
Third, anticipating demonstrations that have no weight. Menwa is trained to learn to prevent anarchist attitudes that lack solutions in demonstration activities. The colonel believes that demonstrations need to be accompanied by solutions and a series of actions that build the country, not destroy them and act arbitrarily outside the law. Don't let students just take part in demonstrations, but their intellect and hearts are empty.
Fourth, apply tolerance and positive radicals. Menwa was asked to be moderate. This attitude refers to efforts to respect differences among Indonesian society with a multicultural background.
Fifth, navigating extremist provocations and the filtration of terrorist ideas. Please note, when someone shows an attitude of intolerance, there is a possibility that that person will be exposed to extremist and even terrorist ideas.
This anarchist group usually targets new people and then provokes them, one of which is via the internet. Anyone can be influenced, regardless of age, gender, job or other status.
Sixth, spread warnings about terrorist characteristics. "One of the characteristics of people who are exposed to radicalism and terrorism is being closed," he explained. By knowing at least one characteristic of these terrorists, Menwa can investigate early warnings of the presence of terrorist groups.
In addition, through BNPT data, it is proven that the majority of terrorists caught are academics in the Scope Higher education. This has become an urgency for Menwa to truly ensure security in the area and campus.
The public lecture which is part of the International Day of Remembrance and Respect for Terrorist Victims on August 21 was continued with a question and answer session, especially by answering the curiosity of Menwa 804 Unesa and Menwa Mahasurya ranging from more than 70 people. []
