Unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA— The Faculty of Law (FH) through the Student Representative Council (DPM) FH Surabaya State University (UNESA) collaborated with the Young Lawyers Committee (YLC) to hold a Public Discussion on YLC Goes to Campus at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Law, UNESA Campus I Ketintang, Surabaya, on Thursday , December 12 2024.
This discussion carries the theme "End of Year Legal Crisis Notes" which discusses the repositioning of the role of advocates in responding to the reality of enforcement law in Indonesia which was attended by the UNESA academic community and the public outside UNESA.
Arinto Nugroho, Dean of FH explained that the aim of holding this public discussion was to provide insight to the entire academic community and to understand the role of advocates in law enforcement in Indonesia.
According to him, there are still many who don't know that advocates are law enforcers who also play a role in law enforcement in Indonesia and how they work.
"So it is important to hold this discussion to provide a clearer understanding of the role of advocacy in law enforcement," he said.

The Dean of FH, Arinto Nugroho gave a speech and emphasized the importance of FH collaboration with organizations and legal institutions.
This public discussion begins with the signing collaboration between FH with DPC Peradi Surabaya and YLC. The collaboration being promoted is an internship program as an advocate for students.
"With this collaboration, it is hoped that there will be an increase in the quality of learning at the Faculty of Law, so that students are not only strong in theory, but have strong practical experience," hoped Arinto Nugroho.
Furthermore, In the discussion session, three speakers were present, namely Abd. Wachid Habibullah Chairman of YLC; Hariyanto, Chairman of DPC Peradi Surabaya; and Hikam Hulwanullah, lecturer at FH UNESA.
In front of students and lecturers, Hariyanto, Chair of DPC Peradi Surabaya, conveyed the shift in legal phenomena in Indonesia. Previously, the law was influenced by nominal money or 'no money no justice.' Now it is actually influenced by social media.

The collaboration between FH UNESA, TLC and Peradi Surabaya covers various aspects, one of which will soon be realized is the student internship program.
A case that has been busy in the media social, usually influences the legal process of the case, or the term is now 'no viral no justice.' Of these two factors, it is still power or strength that will be able to control the law in Indonesia or 'no power no justice.'
"Let's improve the quality of our advocacy together and fight for our independence together," he said.
Wachid Habibullah, Chair of YLC emphasized that to become a good law enforcer you have to start when you are still a student. One effort to start getting to know and understand the law in Indonesia is to study or do an internship in an advocacy position or in another law enforcement agency.
"In reality, most people think that hiring a lawyer is for winning. "However, basically an advocate is a profession that defends rights and interests and not for defending victory," he stressed.[*]
