BIPA UNESA students competed in fast marble racing in the Cinta Indonesia activity at FBS Campus 2 Lidah Wetan, Surabaya.
Unesa. ac.id., SURABAYA—The Indonesian Language Program for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) at Surabaya State University (UNESA) held an introduction to the culture of the country entitled Cinta Indonesia for foreign students at Joglo, Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS), Campus 2 Lidah Wetan, on Friday, April 26 2024.
This activity was attended by a number of BIPA UNESA students from South Korea, Japan, China, Madagascar, Yemen, and Papua New Guinea. They also played various traditional Indonesian games such as clogs, marble racing and sack racing. They were also introduced to various traditional Indonesian foods.
Chief executive, Dr. Octo Dendy Andriyanto, S.Pd., M.Pd., said that traditional Indonesian games are not just ordinary entertainment. It contains shared values such as mutual cooperation, struggle, hard work and cooperation. For this reason, traditional games need to be preserved and even introduced to foreign students.
“Traditional games and food are an inseparable part of the nation's journey that we need to learn and inherit from generation to generation. "This activity is part of our way of promoting this nation's heritage to the world," he said.
The activity became more lively with student performances from Korea who presented the song Indonesia Pusaka. Apart from that, there were students from Japan who presented a fairy tale about "The Origin of the City of Surabaya" using traditional Japanese techniques. This technique, called Kamishibai, combines stories with charming images. Furthermore, there was also a poetry performance entitled "June Rain".
Cinta Indonesia also presented a fairy tale from Haris Rizki or known by his stage name Kak Haris, a UNESA Indonesian Language Education Masters student. Kak Haris brings fairy tales in his unique style. "In my opinion, storytelling is like talking with friends. We can express everything honestly," said Kak Haris enthusiastically.
In closing, Dr. Syamsul Sodiq, M.Pd., UNESA Indonesian Language Master's Study Program Coordinator, thanked everyone who attended. He hopes that this event will not only be an entertainment event, but also a forum for strengthening intercultural relations and introducing the richness of Indonesian culture to foreign students who are undergoing student exchange at UNESA.
