Unesa.ac.id., SURABAYA—Center for Halal Studies, Drug and Food Management, Surabaya State University (UNESA) held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with the East Java Sharia Economic and Financial Regional Committee (KDEKS) regarding the KHAS Zone program in the campus environment which will be held on May 21 2024.
The Director of Sharia Business and Entrepreneurship at East Java KDEKS, Mohammad Ghofirin, introduced the KHAS Zone or Halal, Safe and Healthy Culinary Zone. The KHAS zone is a place where all related parties work together to provide food and drinks that are halal, healthy, safe and in a comfortable environment in accordance with sharia rules.
There are several criteria that are used as a reference to be called a KHAS zone, namely, the manager has a commitment to run the KHAS zone based on sharia management principles.
Apart from that, most of the areas allocated to business actors who have or are currently halal certified, already have adequate facilities and infrastructure. It is also necessary to have a minimum of 10 (ten) culinary MSMEs and a minimum of 5 (five) MSMEs for limited areas and have a prayer room or be close to a mosque.
Dr. Sri Abidah Suryaningsih, S.Ag., M.Pd., Head of the Center for Halal Studies, Drug and Food Management, UNESA, said that this FGD was a follow-up to the program of spreading goodness, how to educate the public about the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
Not only halal, but also a safe and healthy lifestyle. Apart from the need for halal certification, healthy standard certification is also required as a requirement which will be obtained through collaboration with the local health department.
"We did a survey yesterday, the first thing we proposed was the main canteen behind the Rectorate. In the main canteen the prayer is "You can do it at Baitul Makmur 2, near the dormitory," he said.
He continued, KHAS management will be formed soon so that the realization can proceed according to plan, around August. He said there were several requirements that had been successfully fulfilled, such as the minimum number of MSMEs, business permits, management, halal human resources, and buildings, although there were slight improvements to the waste disposal system.
"Hopefully all UNESA canteens will soon be realized as "We will start from those under the BPU first, then go to the faculties," he hoped.[]
