Unesa.ac.id, YOGYAKARTA—Professor of inclusion at Surabaya State University (UNESA) Prof. Dr. Budiyanto, M.Pd., talked about dental health services for people with disabilities in the Dental Summer Course activity on Monday, July 15 2024 at the Margono Building Auditorium, Faculty of Dentistry, Gadjah Mada University (UGM).
Raising the title "Inclusivity in dental health services for people with disabilities: accommodation and accessibility" lecturer at the Faculty of Education (FIP) discussed holistic dental health treatment which includes the medical dimension, psychosocial dimension and partner empowerment dimension.
He also explained various inclusive service approaches by paying attention to diversity, equality and equity indicators. Forms of appropriate accommodation for disabilities, physical and non-physical accessibility, various characteristics and special needs of people with disabilities were also included in the material he presented at the international forum.
According to him, inclusivity in dental health services for people with disabilities must include diversity, equality and equity. Apart from that, the involvement of medical personnel, schools, families and partners also needs to be involved to monitor patient progress.
Apart from that, he also conveyed the importance of every dental health place having facilities that fulfill the rights of people with disabilities. Starting from buildings, entrances, parking areas, registration or registration areas, waiting rooms, toilets, and other aspects that are disability friendly.
“We hope that seriousness in dealing with dental health problems for people with disabilities can be an example for other countries in an effort to improve their overall accessibility and quality of life," he said. (*)
