SURABAYA—Professor of halal business law, Surabaya State University (UNESA), Prof. Dr. Siti Nur Azizah, SH., MHum., was a speaker at the Focus Group Discussion (FGD), Center for Spirituality and Religious Moderation (PKMB), Ar-Raniry State Islamic University (UIN), Banda Aceh on Thursday, December 14 2023.
In the event with the theme "Spirit of Religious Moderation and Harmony in the Political Year Through Multi-Sector Collaboration to Strengthen the Aceh Economy", Prof Nur Azizah (her nickname) explained about 'Religious Moderation in the 2024 Political Year'. According to him, religious moderation is a tolerant way of religion, recognizing the existence of differences and the existence of religions as well as the truths believed by other parties.
According to the professor who serves as deputy chancellor for planning, development, cooperation and information technology and UNESA's communication, Indonesia's social and political stability requires ensuring religious moderation because it can avoid unnecessary religious conflicts and can lead to societal conflicts that can divide the nation.
"Religious life in Indonesia is very complex, plural "at the same time it is multicultural, especially in a political year so that it can give rise to the dynamics of problems that are also diverse. The existence of various schools of religious thought with various views can give rise to the potential for clashes that are not only mental but also physical," he said.
Furthermore, The General Chairperson of the Indonesian Muslim Women Merchants Association also highlighted the role of campuses in grounding moderate religious teachings in the political year. He continued, religious moderation should be a program and part of creative campus life to alleviate various problems of difference.
"Campuses need to be an example in developing a commitment to tolerance to deal with religious radicalism. Campuses must be actors in practicing religion while also caring for diversity," he stressed.

This professor whose home base is at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law (FISH) emphasized that religion is the foundation of the life of society and the nation and must be recognized as having also become the breath in building the life of this nation, religion has become the nation's capital.
"Religious moderation must be the driving force for the creation of plurality and multiculturalism. Identity politics can be eradicated with efforts at religious moderation that emphasizes the balance between inclusiveness and exclusivity," he stressed.
< p>In the final session of her presentation, the fourth daughter of the Indonesian Vice President K.H Ma'ruf Amin emphasized that religious moderation has a significant influence on sharia economic growth. "Religious moderation and sharia economics share fundamental values that are in line, such as justice, ethics, social responsibility and balance in life. Moderation in religion also encourages fair and equitable economic practices," he concluded.This activity was attended by regional government representatives, the Aceh Ulama Consultative Council (MPU), the Aceh Religious Harmony Forum (FKUB), rectors from various universities, deans, mass organizations, strategic agencies of the Aceh Government such as Bappeda, banking, business actors, investors, practitioners and academics from UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh.[]
