Unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA—UNESA's efforts to realize SDG 13 regarding Climate Action are not just a figment of imagination. The commitment of the 'Home of Champions' campus can be seen through its involvement in various international forums, one of which is the University Impact Forum held by Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, on 11-12 September 2024.
The UNESA delegation was led by the Deputy Chancellor for Research, Innovation, Rankings, Publications and Science Center, Bambang Sigit Widodo;
PIC SDG 13, Eko Hariyono; and Director of Innovation, Ranking and Scientific Publications Nadi Suprapto.
Bambang Sigit Widodo said, the University Impact Forum this time carries the theme "Prioritising Climate Action on The Global Higher Education Agenda". There were more than 150 leaders and actors of change who gathered to discuss how climate change is shaping the lived experiences of almost every individual in the current and next generations.
"If climate change is not anticipated, these generations will bear the burden of current and future environmental disturbances," said the lecturer at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol).
He added, based on activity documents, since 2018 UNESA has been involved in Climate Action activities through research collaboration with 9 Asian countries including Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, India and China, through the research organization ATECCE (Asian Teacher Education for Climate Change Education).
This activity is fully supported by the Okayama University ESD Promotion Center sponsored by the Fund for the Promotion of Joint International Research, Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JPPS) in collaboration with UNESCO Bangkok.

Nadi Suprapto , added, apart from taking part in the University Impact Forum activities on climate change, the UNESA delegation also visited two well-known universities in the Azerbaijan region, namely Baku Engineering University (BAU) and Sumqayit Dovlet Universiteti (SDU) [Sumgayit State University] .
"This visit is in order to re-communicate cooperation plans between UNESA and the two universities," said the professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA).
Atraba Gul, Deputy Chancellor for international relations, admitted that he was very happy with the presence of the UNESA team and welcomed the follow-up to the MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) that the Chancellor of UNESA, Nurhasan, had signed with Yagub Piriyev, Rector of Baku Engineering University.
"Based on the results of the meeting, the important points agreed were that Baku Engineering University is ready to collaborate with UNESA in order to improve the quality of education, research and publications as an effort to support UNESA's ranking at the international level," said Nadi Suprapto.
The UNESA delegation was also warmly welcomed by the leadership of Sumqayit Dovlet Universiteti (SDU). In this short meeting, UNESA and SDU discussed several points related to cooperation plans; there are opportunities for collaborative research between UNESA and SDU lecturers, student exchanges, visiting professors and adjunct professors.
Both universities are very optimistic that this collaboration will be beneficial for the progress and improvement of the quality of education at each institution. UNESA Chancellor, Cak Hasan really appreciates the efforts made by the UNESA SDGs team in building networks with well-known universities on the Caspian peninsula.[UNESA Public Relations]
