Unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA—Stunting is still a serious problem that needs to be addressed together, both through the role of the government and universities. This is what the team of lecturers from the Faculty of Medicine (FK) Surabaya State University (UNESA) did in Sutojayan District, Blitar Regency on 11-12 July 2024.
The lecturers who are members of the community service team or PKM provide education to the community there about stunting. The aim is for parents or the community to have the knowledge and awareness to prevent stunting from an early age.
"This lack of awareness has an impact on children's nutrition and causes health problems related to unhealthy eating patterns," said Dr. Sonny Soebjanto, Sp.T.H.T.B.K.L, chairman of PKM.
He continued, Sutojayan Community Health Center has provided information on healthy lifestyles, but additional steps are still needed to empower the community, especially mothers, in preparing healthy household menus.
Apart from that, also There needs to be strengthening of knowledge about how to prevent stunting from an early age. "Our country is facing a serious nutritional problem, as can be seen from the high number of cases of malnutrition among toddlers and school students," he said.
"Stunting is often undetected because height measurements are rarely carried out and many are caused by various factors ranging from socio-economic, maternal nutrition during pregnancy and eating patterns," he added.
Through this activity, it is hoped that it can increase health knowledge and awareness in the community, as well as make a positive contribution to community health efforts in Blitar Regency, especially Sutojayan District.
This activity involved a number of lecturers, namely, Dr. Sonny Soebjanto, Sp.T.H.T.B.K.L; Dr. Ariesia Dewi Ciptorini, Sp.N; Dr. Erick Tanara, Sp.An-TI; Dr. Nieke Andina Wijaya, M. Biomed., Sp. DV; Dr. Sisi Artayasuinda, Sp.KJ; Dr. Tri Putra Rahmad Ramadani, Sp.Rad; and dr. Rahmantio Adi, Sp.PD.[]
