The Director of PPIS UNESA delivered his oration regarding the meaning of independence and the struggle against violence in front of students around UNESA.

SURABAYA--The Directorate of Prevention and Handling of Strategic Issues (PPIS) of Surabaya State University (UNESA) formed the Unique Student Activity (UKM) Cakra Harmoni or Cah UNESA which was introduced to the community at the Merdeka Laboratory, Campus 2 Lidah Wetan, Surabaya, on Saturday, August 17 2024.
In the event entitled "Gema Merdeka: A Stage of Inspiration and Expression Celebrating Independence with Art and Words", the Director of PPIS, Mutimmatul Faidah emphasized the meaning of independence which was born from a process of struggle and sacrifice.
"After 79 years of independence, as the nation's next generation we must hold a big responsibility. Independence does not only mean freedom from poverty and colonialism, but also from violence," he stressed.According to him, major challenges are still often encountered such as sexual violence, bullying and intolerance. So there needs to be innovation in filling this independence with a breakthrough. "We want to portray the meaning of independence by ending violence such as sexual violence, intolerance, discrimination, bullying, drugs and corruption," he said.
UNESA Director Mawal also reinforced the importance of collaboration and joint commitment in efforts to prevent violence.
Professor UNESA added that freedom from violence needs to be fought for together, one of which is through the formation of UKM Cah UNESA to provide a forum for students to deal with problems surrounding structural sexual violence.
Through this UKM, the UNESA academic community receives education and inspiration to play an active role in creating a campus environment that is safe and free from violence.
UNESA wants this UKM to become a model for other UKM in making a real contribution to efforts to prevent violence and build student character. Not only that, discussion forums and leisure activities are also regularly held through Cah UNESA.
"This discussion under a shady and relaxing tree aims to create a comfortable space for students to share ideas and collaborate," he concluded.
Muhamad Sholeh, Director of Student and Alumni Affairs (Mawal) UNESA, reminded event participants that 79 years ago, the nation's fighters sacrificed their lives and property for the sake of the freedom we enjoy today.
Now, according to him, the nation's challenges in fighting drugs, violence and various other social issues are much more difficult than in the past.
UNESA students and lecturers signed a banner as a form of joint commitment to strengthening efforts to prevent violence through innovative programs or activities.
He also expressed his appreciation to the PPIS Directorate for the collaboration that has been established in supporting student work and innovation. According to him, all UNESA student activities and achievements are the result of joint efforts.
"With the support and active participation of the entire academic community, we are confident that UNESA can become a campus with zero sexual violence and a role model for achievement and innovation," he added.
This event is designed to celebrates the spirit of independence by combining art and national speeches, providing a platform for students to express their love for their homeland.
This agenda includes various activities, starting with national orations, poetry performances and singing songs of the spirit of struggle that raise the spirit of patriotism. The gambyong dance performance is also a highlight, showcasing the stunning beauty of traditional Javanese art.
This event ended with the signing of a commitment that confirmed participants' support for positive values, with a firm call to reject violence, corruption and drugs, and a determination to achieve with one voice, one soul and one word. []
