Unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA—Apriyani Rahayu recently visited her beloved campus, Surabaya State University (Unesa), Thursday (17/10/2024). The 2021 Tokyo Olympics Badminton Women's Doubles gold medal winner is a student at the Unesa Faculty of Sports and Health Sciences (FIKK). Her presence also served to enliven the 2024 National Sports Day (Haornas) at Unesa.
On this occasion, Apriyani was warmly welcomed by the lecturers while lightly discussing national sports issues in the meeting room on the floor. 1, FIKK Unesa Dean's Building. The Unesa Chancellor, who is usually called Cak Hasan, especially appreciated Apriyani's achievements. “We always support good things for the progress and achievements of Indonesian sports. "Apriyani is no exception in badminton," said Cak Hasan.
"Moreover, Apriyani is a gold medalist at the Olympics. Not all athletes achieve their achievements like him. "Therefore, we gave him a scholarship, as well as being able to motivate younger students at Unesa," continued the chancellor. "We are already planning to open a Badminton Academy at Unesa," said Cak Hasan again.
Meanwhile, the Dean of FIKK Unesa, Prof. Dr. Dwi Cahyo specifically hopes for Apriyani, "We at Unesa always try to provide the best for the heroes sports, both regional, national and even international levels. "The goal is that what they achieve can be used as a model for every student, so that when they go into the field or the community they will be able to correctly carry out what they have learned on campus," explained the Dean.

During the conversation, Apriyani admitted that she was happy and proud to be part of the big family of FIKK Unesa in particular, and Unesa in general.
"I am very happy to be able to meet the lecturers, the Dean, the Chancellor, and the professors who helped me academically at here. Moreover, you can meet various experts from various sports here. "I am very grateful to be here," he said.
When asked about his proudest achievement, namely being an Olympic champion, this athlete from Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi answered and shared his tips.
“To be champions at the Olympic level, we must have high dedication. "Then have discipline that must be maintained as a responsibility as a professional athlete," explained Apriyani.
The woman who was born on April 29 1998 also did not forget to convey a special message to her friends at college, at FIKK Unesa. “Let's keep achieving our dreams. Because ideals are free, don't pay. So please all of you aspire as high as possible. Don't forget, whatever you do, your dedication must be extraordinary. "Everything must be based on the heart for us to live," explained the daughter of Sittijauhar and Ameruddin.
“In the end, the ups and downs of the storm must be overcome wholeheartedly, too, and ultimately it becomes an achievement too. I felt all of that before and after the Olympics. "All of these always go hand in hand and cannot be separated to achieve achievements," he stressed.
Turning Point
We touched on the turning point in becoming a professional badminton athlete like Now, Apriyani says that her parents taught her many sports. “At first I was introduced to swimming, badminton and taekwondo. And when I played badminton, my parents felt that I was happy. From there, my father made a wooden racket for me to play with," recalled the former women's doubles partner, Greysia Polii.
"From there, I started taking part in championships. When I was in elementary school, I was only able to reach provincial level. Then in 2011 my supervisor promised that if I was able to win gold at the Provincial Sports Week (Porprov), then I would be sent to Jakarta. And, thank God, I managed to get gold and finally went to Jakarta until now," he explained.
Regarding the development of future badminton athletes, Apriyani also really appreciates Unesa's plan to establish a badminton academy. “This is the most appropriate vehicle. With the existence of a badminton academy, future badminton athletes can be captured and filtered through this program. "I am ready to support Unesa's plan," he concluded.[]
