Unesa.ac.id., SURABAYA–The meeting of the Association of Indonesian Sports Professors (Apkori) and the Indonesian Sports Deans Forum at Surabaya State University (UNESA) on Tuesday, August 15 2023, discussed strategies for developing Indonesia's sporting achievements on the international stage. One of the highlights is related to the implementation of DBON and the strategy to find young sportsmen in the regions.
Sports discussion involving PSSI Deputy Chairman, Dr. Zainudin Amali, S.E., M.Sc., UNESA Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., and the professors and deans of sports from various campuses highlighted many things about the development of sports achievements.
Challenges for Indonesian Sports
Zainudin Amali said, there were several challenges in the world of sports including; 1) community participation and physical fitness are still low; 2) the sports achievement development system has not been systematic, planned, tiered and sustainable.
In addition, 3) sports personnel have not fulfilled both in quantity and quality; 4) sport science has not been used as the main component of increasing sports achievement; 5) there is no special education curriculum for athletes; 6) the business world has not yet been optimized to support national sports activities.
"Through DBON, our target is to conquer the Olympics and Paralympics as the main goal. We use sports competitions at the Asian Games, Asian Para Games, SEA Games and ASEAN level Para Games as an intermediary target," he said. 1) improve the sports culture of society; 2) increase the capacity, synergy and productivity of national sports achievements; 3) and advancing the national economy based on sports.
To achieve this goal, it is necessary to nurture and recruit athletes from an early age. Because of that, strategic steps are needed from the center to the regions. In addition, it is necessary to form a provincial DBON coordination team as stated by Prof. Dr. Hari Setijono, M.Pd.

Directions of President Joko Widodo
The head of the Kemenpora sports expert team, Prof. Dr. Moch. Asnawi, M.Pd., said that there were several directives from President Joko Widodo regarding this regulation. Among them, directions to improve national sports achievements, total review and redesign of the national sports ecosystem and governance of national athlete development, and synergy of athlete development from regional to national.
"This directive needs to be translated by us together at each campus. I think the campus must continue to be a driving force for and improve the quality of sports in the country.
