BANGKOK-- Scientific research and publications have an important impact covering various aspects, both at the individual, institutional and wider community levels. The Impact of research and publications is not only felt in the academic sphere but also contributes significantly to the development of society as a whole. We have realized the challenges and how important the Impact of Scientific Publication and International Networking is at the higher education level, especially international ranking and recognition.
Realizing the importance of Impact of Scientific Publication and International Networking, Surabaya State University (UNESA) shows its commitment by participating in the activities of the Southeast Asia Research Intelligence Forum, ElSEVIER , 2024.
This activity is an annual activity organized by ELSEVIER in collaboration with TOP universities in Southeast Asia. This year the activity was held in Bangkok, Thailand on July 11 2024 with the theme "From Insight to Impact: Evidence-based Strategies for Research Excellence" (https://www.elsevier.com/events/conferences/all/ttir-sea-intelligence-forum-2024) .
Around 74 participants from various Southeast Asian countries also attended the Southeast Asia Research Intelligence Forum, ElSEVIER, 2024. Southeast Asia Research Intelligence Forum, ElSEVIER, 2024 is dedicated to exploring strategies for translating insights into impactful results in the field of research excellence.
Highlights of Back to Earth: Landing real-world impact in academic evaluation will explore progress, obstacles, and potential next steps in this important endeavor.
In addition, this event will also discuss important topics such as research impact and evaluation, university rankings and methodology, as well as the role of Generative AI in research strategy.
Event Southeast Asia Research Intelligence Forum, ElSEVIER, 2024 in line with the commitment of UNESA Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M. Kes. which supports the acceleration of Impact of Scientific Publication and International Networking at the higher education level through strengthening the superior quality of human resources, international collaboration in research, publications and education, as well as increasing learning and teaching innovation.
UNESA Director of Innovation, Rankings and Scientific Publications, Prof. Nadi Suprapto, Ph.D. who was one of the delegates to this activity also stated that through participation in this activity he could open new insights regarding the impact and evaluation of research, university rankings and methodology, as well as the role of Generative AI in research strategies.
The first active participation of the 'Home of Champions' campus in the Southeast Asia Research Intelligence Forum, ElSEVIER, 2024 event can be a stepping stone for accelerating the increase in the quantity and quality of UNESA's scientific publications with a refresh pattern and updates related to the latest scientific publication policies, including a focus on generative AI issues, said Dr. Binar Kurnia Prahani (Head of Sub-Directorate for Scientific Publications and Conference Management UNESA).
The Southeast Asia Research Intelligence Forum, ElSEVIER, 2024 event was opened by Kavit Yagnik, Regional Director, Elsevier and presentation from the Keynote Dr. Anders Karlsson, Vice President, Global Strategic Networks, Asia Pacific, Elsevier. Dr. Anders Karlsson presented the theme Back to Earth: Landing real-world impact in academic evaluation. "The importance of investigating progress, obstacles and potential next steps in the process of improving quality and academic evaluation," he said.
This event was continued by Session 1 with the theme National University of Singapore Best Practice Case Study Showcase by Dr Taizan Chan, Chief Data Officer, National University of Singapore. "International collaboration activities in research will increase the quantity and quality of scientific publications, as well as high citation impact and other positive impacts," he said.

After the Morning Networking Break, the event continued with Session 2 Enhancing Research Management at Mahidol University: An Introduction to the PURE/MUREX Portal by Dr. Wanaruk Chaimayo, Assistant to the President for Research Strategies - Research Administration and Development Division, Mahidol University, Thailand. Dr. Wanaruk introduced the PURE/MUREX portal, highlighting its key features and potential benefits to the research ecosystem of Mahidol University, Thailand.
Apart from that, the portal also discusses integration of various aspects of research management, such as submitting project proposals, grant management, and collaboration tools. Initial findings from an ongoing evaluation, based on input from key stakeholders. The potential of this portal is to improve research management practices and facilitate better communication and collaboration among stakeholders.
Entering Session 3 Harnessing Generative AI for Deeper Insights in Academic Research by Dr Yoottapong Klinthongchai, Customer Success Manager, Elsevier. "Scopus AI can be optimized wisely to help improve the quality of publications provided that they comply with the ethics of writing scientific papers and publications," he said.
The event continued with Panel Discussion 1 Defining Impact: Best Practices for Research Evaluation and Strategy< /em>. This panel will explore best practices and data-driven methodologies adopted by several Southeast Asian Universities, in their efforts to define the Impact of Science.
Southeast Asia's top panelists explored the metrics and frameworks needed to maximize the reach and significance of research results. Panel discussion 2 discussed some of the broader aspects of the impact of university activities on the economy and society, and what good practices can be implemented to capture these aspects, if they can be captured.
With the emergence of generative AI as a tool for science and research strategy, how this can also impact research management work includes articulating its impact. []
