Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA—The 2024 UNESA RECTOR CUP II Karate Championship was officially opened at GRAHA UNESA, Campus II Lidah Wetan, Surabaya on Friday, 27 December 2024. The championship, which runs until 29 December 2024, is attended by around three thousand (3,000) athletes from various regions who compete in various categories.
There are three categories being competed, namely the open category, student category, TNI-Polri category, and festival category. The activity was opened by the Deputy Chancellor I for Academic, Student and Alumni Affairs, Madlazim, who was attended by UNESA leadership elements, the ranks of the karate sports federation, sports committees and related sports organizations.
UNESA Deputy Chancellor I, Madlazim emphasized that this event aims to support Indonesian athletes in improving their quality at the regional level, as well as to measure athletes' technical abilities to be used as evaluation material in developing athletes' achievements in stages, levels, stages. , and sustainable.
"This competition is intended to find superior seeds in the sport of karate and to strengthen ties of brotherhood between fellow karate activists or athletes throughout the country," he said at the championship on the occasion of UNESA's 60th anniversary.

Professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and Science Natural Sciences (FMIPA) added that this championship is not just a competition and medal event, but also an opportunity to show discipline, fighting spirit and hard work that have been forged through long training.
"Karate is not just a sport, but also a philosophy of life that teaches values such as respect, courage and perseverance. Hopefully this championship can run smoothly and full of sportsmanship, and create valuable moments for all involved, " he said.
Afifan Yulfadinata, PIC of the championship, explained that this championship was attended by around 2,100 participants in the festival category and 1,061 participants in the open category. This competition involved a total of around 3,000 athletes from various sources provinces, districts and cities in Indonesia, with 126 contingents from all over Indonesia.
He added that preparations for this championship have started since June 2024. "We are preparing all aspects carefully, starting from distributing proposals to organizing technical. Thank God, we see that this year's preparations are better and more organized," he said.
This championship is intended to foster and develop young karate athletes in Indonesia. This competition is a means of evaluation for athletes, as well as motivation to continue to develop. "We also provide educational facilities through the < em>golden ticket for outstanding athletes who wish to continue their studies at UNESA," he added.
This competition was greeted with enthusiasm by participants from various regions. Bambang, a trainer from a dojo in Mataram, brought 16 participants from various competition categories to take part in the UNESA Cup II Karate Championship.
He revealed the challenges in managing so many participants. "The preparations are complicated, we have been required to practice five times a week since two months before this match. I don't really hope to win, the important thing is that the athletes have experience and that is important for their development," he said.
Salah One junior female karate participant from the Karsun Karate Dojo, Lale Elsa Zahralika from Mataram City, expressed her joy at being able to compete at UNESA. "It's really exciting, this is the first time I've seen a stand this cool at UNESA, it's like having a new experience and I can't wait to compete," he said.
M. Attailah and her friend Henryko, junior and beginner karate participants from the MNS TEAM Dojo, Bogor City, expressed their hopes for this competition. "We have been training for several months beforehand. Taking part in this competition was actually intended to increase my flying hours. Hopefully I can return to Bogor with a medal," said Attailah enthusiastically.[*]
