Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA–The period of introducing student activity units or UKM to new students at the State University of Surabaya (UNESA), which started last Monday, ended in the Rectorate's yard, Lidah Wetan Campus, Surabaya, on Thursday, August 31 2023 .
The highlight of the event, apart from dozens of booths and performances from each UKM, visitors were also treated to a concert attended by guest stars such as The Rain and Some Island.
The chant 'Terlagi Patah Hati' and 'Along Jalan Kenangan', which were hits at that time, returned to greet hundreds of participants who were slowly lost in the songs of guest stars.
This activity was also witnessed by the leadership starting from UNESA Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., and Deputy Chancellor for Division II Dr. Bachtiar Syaiful Bachri, M.Pd., and related directors or officers. They came one by one and tried out various products, innovations and evidence of achievements at each UKM booth.
UNESA Director of Student and Alumni Affairs, Dr. Muhamad Sholeh, M.Pd., on that occasion emphasized that UKM is very important as a place for students' self-development. According to him, after being identified, the achievements made by students mostly came from their participation in UKM, whether in the fields of music, scientific work, religion or sports.
"However, unfortunately, it turns out that there are still few students who are interested in joining "SMEs that are in line with their talents and potential. With this exhibition we introduce UKMs and those that match their interests are allowed to join," he said.
He continued, many students do not yet know that there are actually many UKMs that can accommodate their creativity and potential. If we reflect on previous years, the UKM Expo did not attract the attention of freshmen, so only a few people joined.
By packaging the UKM Expo in such a way as one of the ways used by the Directorate of Student Affairs and Alumni to communicate with freshmen to be interested and want to register with UKM at UNESA.
"This all cannot be separated from the suggestions of UKM friends who proposed a new and cool concept for UKM Expo 2023. The concept is good and in line with UNESA's changes to "PTN-BH. The Chancellor agreed to support a new breath in the UKM Expo 2023 this time," he concluded.(*)
